From 1964, exhausted, over-medicated, and humiliated by CBS, Judy tears into it. Producers cut this performance from the final broadcast because they found it “too dark”. It was a very classy and passionate farewell with a side of, “Go to hell!”
I loved how Conan exited the Tonight Show. I thought he maintained his humor and levity but didn’t let NBC off the hook. It was inspiring to see someone “fail” in a sense, and handle it so well. Judy’s performance here is the same. The way she filters her anger and sadness… well… it’s just masterful and gorgeous. Good to hear it made the studio squirm and glad we get to see it now.
